Update on Neurology and Psychiatry of Women: What Every Practitioner Needs To Know – Harvard Medical School

The course, Women’s Neurology and Psychiatry will raise awareness about issues specific to women with a neurological and psychiatric disease. The presentations will focus on gender differences in these disorders during all stages of women’s lives. The course is designed to address the continuing education needs of physicians in neurology, psychiatry, internal medicine and obstetrics. The presentations will provide high quality, leading-edge research on women’s health and gender-specific care in both neurology and psychiatry. Interactive learning formats including cased based presentations and Q&A will be provided to allow learners to engage in the educational process.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Utilize the information presented to recommend appropriate gender-specific treatment and management of many neurologic and psychiatric diseases including stroke, bipolar disease, depression, headache, conversion disorders, stroke prevention, endocrine issues in women with a psychiatric and neurological disease, Alzheimer’s, epilepsy and healthy aging in women.
- Evaluate treatment strategies for conditions across your female patient’s life cycle.
- Develop prevention strategies for your female patients at risk for strokes.
- Apply appropriate guidelines for the treatment of neurologic and psychiatric diseases.
The target audience for the course is physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other mental health professionals in the areas of neurology, internal medicine, psychiatry, obstetrics, and family practice.
