April 28, 2016 @ 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM£185
This highly interactive course offers training in the practical skills of scientific writing and you will learn how to put together a paper and clearly convey a message. The course focuses on those basic skills common to all published work that can make the difference between acceptance and rejection and getting your work into print. This one day course was originally developed by Professor Derek Alderson in conjunction with the editors of British Journal of Surgery (BJS). The present course represents a collaboration between the Royal College of Surgeons and the British Journal of Surgery Society.
- Writing in scientific English
- Authorship rules
- How to logically section your work
- Revising and editing
- Writing in sections: introduction and discussion
The course is designed to be interactive. There is a workbook which will hopefully act as a reminder of the critical points upon which publication is based. The course is divided into interactive sections, each consisting of a brief tutorial, a series of related tasks, group discussion and a summary.
Most of the included text examples have been taken from papers published in the BJS in the last few years and are reproduced with permission of the publisher, Wiley-Blackwell.
