Diagnostic and Interventional Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Symposium with Cadaver Lab – NYU Langone Medical Center
May 19, 2016 - May 22, 2016$3.599
The purpose of this three and a half day course is to educate the attendees in a single comprehensive upper and lower extremity musculoskeletal ultrasound conference. The attendees will be exposed to didactic lectures and will work hands-on with human models and cadavers. With the combination of excellent faculty and significant cadaver exposure, this course will provide an excellent opportunity for participant learning and mastery.
The participants will be able to attend this one program and return to their practices equipped with the academic and clinical knowledge and confidence to perform diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound of the upper and lower extremities on their patients.
The first part of the symposium will be directed at learning diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound. Presentations will be provided on the fundamentals of musculoskeletal ultrasound, the ultrasound examination of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, and ankle and foot. There will also be didactic lectures on the normal ultrasound appearance and pathology of these structures.
Afterward, there will be hands-on human models to practice the ultrasound examination on these different structures. The second part of the course will be focused on interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound. The first presentation will be the fundamentals of interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound followed by didactic lectures on the various ultrasound guided procedures. During this part of the course, the attendees will spend lots of time in the cadaver lab with the faculty to be proficient in ultrasound guided procedures. At the termination of the conference, participants will feel comfortable and confident in performing a musculoskeletal ultrasound examination, be familiar with the ultrasound visualization of normal and pathological musculoskeletal structures, and ultrasound guided procedures. The combination of excellent faculty, lectures, and a large amount of cadaver exposure will provide a lot of confidence to the attendees and they will feel very comfortable implementing in their medical practice. The knowledge they attain from this course will significantly add to the quality of care to their patients.
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Utilize ultrasound guidance to determine the source of pain and administer medication in precise locations to alleviate pain
- Diagnose and safely treat soft tissue and inflammatory disorders as well as nerve injuries while minimizing patient’s discomfort during the procedure
- Discuss procedures and treatment with their patients to maximize their comfort level
- Safely administer medications and perform diagnostic procedures, with no radiation exposure, on all patients, including those with mechanical cardiac devices
