Comprehensive Training Program in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery – NYU Langone Medical Center
June 13, 2016 - June 16, 2016$6,200
Stereotactic radiosurgery is now a common procedure in neurosurgery and radiation oncology. It is jointly performed by a neurosurgeon, radiation oncologist, and medical physicist. Radiosurgery for brain disorders (tumors, vascular malformations, and functional problems) is performed at centers worldwide. Dedicated training during residency varies greatly. While some programs have a focused experience, many provide little education in this area. For that reason, most hospitals require attendance at a training course prior to the granting of privileges.
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
• Discuss the roles of radiosurgery, radiotherapy, and resection for different brain disorders
• Create effective dose plans for all indications and apply in clinical practice
• Select an acceptable radiation dose based on available medical evidence
• Distinguish a radiosurgery complication from disease progression and manage radiation injury effectively
